Workshop Description:

Two 90-minute workshops exploring ourselves and learning to accept all parts of ourselves, generally and through pole movement.

The first workshop will introduce IFS and start exploring ourselves through pole dance. The second will be a deeper dive.

In addition to pole, Steele is a therapist, specializing in complex trauma, anxiety and LGBTQIA+ folks and trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). IFS is not family therapy; it's called that because the founder noticed that internally we have parts that act like a family, although not always a very healthy one. For example, we have scapegoats of ourselves, like hurt, anxious, or angry parts, which we don't really like and push to the side. We also sometimes have parts that are at odds, like a part that says we need to work 24/7 and a part that says we should relax more. However, if we can connect to these parts, understand them, and find compassion, the parts tend to calm down, and we can work with them better.

In addition to parts, we also have burdens, which are beliefs we took on. Sometimes we take them on to survive or get through a part of our life; sometimes, we get them from family, important people around us, and society. We can also do a bit of work around this.

IFS has been around for about 40 years, but there's a lot more data lately that it's helpful for trauma, depression, and anxiety. For information, see here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/internal-family-systems-therapy

Note: This workshop is not meant to replace therapy for folks with more serious issues, but it can be a nice complement.
