Questions

Attendance and Cancellations

  • Classes are non-refundable. However, students are eligible for a makeup credit or credit restoration within our cancellation policy and students Prepaid Packages. All credits have expiration dates.

  • Credits and packages have expiration dates. Please check those expiration dates in your student profile as we cannot extend these dates unless emergency circumstances such as injury with a doctors note.

  • Workshops and special events are non-refundable and are NOT eligible for makeup credit or restoration.

  • Please arrive on time. Students over 10 minutes late will be turned away without credit or refund. Warm up is crucial and getting on the pole without properly warming up will lead to injury.

  • Please cancel your class via your Bookeo profile when you cannot attend. "No showing" takes away opportunities from other students who want to attend classes. Chronic no-shows can lead to not being allowed to enroll in classes.

  • Students may cancel 24 hours before class via their Bookeo profile under "Bookings". Cancelling before 24 hours students will receive a makeup credit within 24-48 hours to use on another class. If students are using a Prepaid Package, credits will be restored immediately upon early cancellation.

  • If students have to cancel with less than 24 hours please email the studio at MynxAcademy@gmail.com so we can contact our waitlist. If you are sick or have an emergency we will do our best to work with you on a makeup option as long as you contact us!

Please do not try to cancel class via social media. Students must cancel their own classes via their profile or if less than 24 hours, contact the studio at MynxAcademy@gmail.com.

Class FAQs

What should I wear?:

  • Comfortable layers! Please have shorts on under your layers or to change into and wear a tank top or sports bra. You will need thigh skin and upper arm skin available at times for spins and tricks.

  • A MASK if you are taking classes with our instructor Steele

  • Always have a mask on you just incase classes change for a day, you feel sniffly, or you have a sub who requires mask!

  • Heels are welcome but are not suggested for Intro-to-Pole classes. Barefoot or socks are ideal for our Intro-to-Pole classes.

What should I bring?:

  • A yoga mat.

  • Water bottle. We have a water fountain you may fill up at.

  • Knee pads (not required in the beginning but you may come to appreciate using them sooner rather than later!)

  • Socks or leg warmers can be nice to keep warm and for different types of warmups and exercises you may do.

  • Dance heels with rubber bottoms are always welcome (Brands like Pleasers, Elle, Hella Heels, etc) but not required especially for your first few months as you get acquainted with the pole. Sneakers, street shoes/heels are not allowed on the studio floor. They must be dance heels with rubber bottoms.

Some things NOT to do:

  • Do NOT wear or apply lotion before class. This is a hazard and makes the pole and the surrounding area very slippery and dangerous.

  • Do NOT wear rings or jewelry. You may remove it before class and leave it in your personal cubby. Rings and jewelry can cause damage to the pole and vice versa

  • Do NOT wear street heels or street shoes on the dance floor! Only appropriate dance heels with rubber bottoms can be worn on the dance floor. See: Pleasers, Elle, Hella Heels, etc

How long do I attend Intro-to-Pole before moving into Beginner Level 1?:

  • Intro-to-Pole students must attend 8-15 classes (1-3 months) Intro-to-Pole classes before moving to Beginner Level 1

  • Students may receive instructor permission to move up sooner

  • Students can discuss with their instructor or the studio at MynxAcademy@gmail.com if they're not sure if they should move up or not!

Other Common Questions

Who can attend classes?:

  • We are an inclusive space allowing all people, sex, genders, identities, body types, that are 18+!

  • If you are under 18+ and have parent or guardian permission, please contact us at MynxAcademy@gmail.com for further guidance.

  • It’s never to late to pole dance, our oldest dancers have been in their 70s!

  • Still nervous to sign up or have specific needs? Start with private lessons to build confidence before joining the classroom!

Can I come sit and watch a class?:

  • NO. We do NOT allow spectators. While we understand you may be curious or nervous to join a class we strive to create a comfortable and safe environment for our students and instructors. Come join an Intro-to-Pole class or take a private lesson if you’re nervous.

How much are classes and private lessons?:

  • Drop-in rates start at $20.00

    • Intro-to-Pole classes are always $20.00 without seasonal promos

  • Level Classes (classes labeled levels 1+) are eligible for “Early Bird” pricing of $18.75 if you book and entire session of classes before the starting date.

  • Level Classes (classes labeled levels 1+) are also eligible for Prepaid Packages which saves consistent students money! These are our preferred method for students taking level classes to book as it saves money but makes it extremely easy to cancel classes and receive credit restoration immediately for classes canceled before 24 hours.

  • Private lessons vary on individual instructors so please check with your instructor on their pricing.

  • We do not offer “Memberships” at this time.

What to expect during a class:

  • Introductions if there are new students in the room as we will always wish for your preferred name and pronouns!

  • Expect a 10-20 minute warmup depending on the class syllabus for the day. Most days we do mat warm ups so bring your favorite and most comfortable yoga mat to warmup on.

  • Pole time! You will usually learn a mixture of spins, tricks, and transitions depending on the class you sign up for.

  • Sharing! Level classes can have up two 2 students sharing a pole and Intro-to-Pole Drop-in classes and workshops can have up to 3 students sharing a pole. Sharing is wonderful as it allows students to have breaks which students need (pole is strenuous just like weight lifting or any other workout) , time to observe and appreciate your fellow dancers, and ask questions.

  • Bruising aka Pole Kisses! Pole can be pretty hard on the skin at first and why we like to give students and their bodies time to work and adjust to the pole before moving into Level classes. Students will typically receive a new Pole Kiss (mwah!) for every new trick learned. Have no fear, your skin will adjust and you will bruise less overtime.

  • Slipping and sliding due to sweat OR dry skin. Make sure to NEVER wear lotion or oils before class as it is very dangerous on and around the poles and can hurt you and your classmates. Always wash your hands before class and wipe your pole with the alcohol provided throughout class to keep your pole free from sweat. All students will gain greater grip strength overtime but feel free to ask your instructor about appropriate grips aids if you are having lots of trouble sliding on the pole due to sweat or dry skin.

  • Conditioning exercises. These are sprinkled through classes through your warmup, pole work, and/or cool downs.

  • Making new friends with similar goals, creativity, and values! We see so many amazing friendships made at the studio overtime as you grow together in skill and strength!

Advice before signing up?:

  • Just do it! So many people miss out because they wait for their friends to come with them or you convince yourself you need to go to the gym for weeks before ever attending. Do not wait! EVERYONE starts as a beginner no matter their background and past fitness experience. Everyone progresses differently, but everyone starts as a beginner learning their first spins and tricks.

  • Coming alone? Don’t worry! You will meet so many brave and like minded people who came by themselves. Our instructors are also here to make you feel welcome! Check out all the kind reviews from other students.

  • Don’t allow social media to skew what a real class is like. Just come take a real class and experience it for yourself!

  • Worse that happens is pole dance isn’t your thing but now you’re more willing to try new things!
